It’s going to be a weird introduction, but if you knew me – it’s fitting…

Death is my greatest motivation. Why you ask? Well, my greatest fear in life is that I don’t reach my potential. The thing about me is that I have to live my dreams. It’s not a question. The way my body needs water, is the same way my soul needs to have certain experiences this life-time.

Once you start pondering about death, you start to think about what you truly want out of life. You start to fast forward through all the bullshit excuses and you find yourself staring at raw passion. You visualize yourself embracing this energy and living a different kind of life. A life where you take risks. A life where spontaneity has room to breathe. A life where you wake up and smile, simply because you are spending your time wisely.

What does this have to do with going vegan? Ah yes, good question. My father recently had quadruple bypass surgery. It was unexpected. He just thought he was sick, but what was really happening was a slow and subtle heart attack.  Luckily, through a stress test, they discovered what was wrong and he underwent a successful surgery. My father is a tough man and I can only imagine what he experienced before and after.

I’m the kind of guy that has no problem getting tattoos all over his body, but once someone mentions getting blood work – I’m out. I don’t like hospitals, I don’t like getting my blood taken and I don’t even like talking about anything medically related. But after my digestive issues I’ve had throughout my life and watching my father go through what he went through – I decided it was time for a change.

My wife came to me one night and brought up the idea of changing our diet. Without much hesitation, I thought it was a great idea. I tried going vegetarian / vegan twice in my life and both didn’t last long, but I was willing to give it go one more time.

I’ve been on a vegan diet for a month now and the two biggest surprises that I’ve had were that my digestive system was transformed and my weight did not drop. As I mentioned before, I had digestive issues when I was younger and with only a month into the new diet, my digestive system has already underwent a wonderful change.

I’ve been skinny my entire life and I don’t anticipate that to change. I did, however, thought that changing to a vegan diet would induce weight loss. To my surprise, that was not the case. Now for my wife, she has been experiencing weight loss, which is one of her goals, so that is making her happy. For me, I’m completely happy with just maintaining a healthy weight.

Some tend to find this change absurd or even obnoxious. I don’t care. Although I do find it unsettling how animals are treated in this world, that was not a reason on why I changed my diet. I’m not even sure I can say that this diet is for everyone. All I can say is that after being on a vegan diet for a month, it has worked for me. I chose this diet for my health and if I have my health, I have more time for my dreams.
