the Next Chapter…

Leave a comment Standard

Four months of staying in one place. FOUR MONTHS! Haha. It was not what I was expecting, but with the USA having four seasons, we of course were going to need to stay somewhere warm for the winter. For us that was southern California. When I think of southern California I think of LA & San Diego. No we were far south. Right by the Mexican border actually. Anyway, these past few months have been less about adventure and more about working online, going to the gym, doing taxes, fixing our slide, enjoying warm weather and chillin in the hot tub. Well, this chapter is ending in a few days and a new one will begin…

There are times I get frustrated with living in an RV. I think anyone who does this full-time probably experiences the same thing; waiting for the hot water heater, hitting your head on something, dishes overflowing, etc. What makes it amazing though are all the places you get to see and the people you meet. I think Washington DC, New York City and the Grand Canyon have been my favorite places we have visited so far. While the area that we are currently in is not the most interesting, it is probably the best RV Park we have been to. The weather, hot tub and the people are great! We will most likely be returning for next winter. I say most likely because with us, you never really know where we are going to end up – haha!

What I am most excited about for the remainder of 2019 are the national parks that we will get to see. We also have not seen our families in quite a while, so we will also have an opportunity to do that.

I love being able to avoid cold weather. I love visiting the iconic attractions of America, and also the hidden gems. I love having the choice to just sit in my chair, stare at a mountain and enjoy the warm weather or going out and having an adventure. I like having freedom. Freedom to control my work schedule. Freedom to roam the United States and beyond. When we had our dog walking business people would mention that we had freedom. And we did. We were our own bosses, but the level of freedom that we have now is so much greater than before. I am currently living a dream of mine while working towards another dream. A bigger dream. As I write this, it seems very much like my sleeping dreams – how I can be in one dream and then shift into another dream.

Although traveling is a dream of mine, it does not  mean it is 24/7 happiness. I’m happier, but it doesn’t mean that things can’t be frustrating or difficult at times. Life is not perfect. It is also interesting to think how my dream can be someone else’s nightmare. This life style is not for everyone. I am not the type of individual that thrives in the 9-5, have a boss, stay in one place type of energy. Although I work 36-42 hours per week, I usually never work more than 6 hours per day nor do I have a long commute. My commute is me getting my ass out of bed, walking  a few feet over to my computer and turning the coffee  pot on. I like it haha.

I don’t know how long we will be living in a RV, but I am currently enjoying the simplicity of everything now. One thing I know is that after seeing the USA, we will be wanting to explore other countries. I want to learn other languages and experience other cultures. My current job is helping me not only improve my communication skills, but it also gives me a chance to  speak with people from all over the world. When I learn about different countries I get excited. What can I say, I’m an explorer – this is who I am.

Getting Paid to Talk

Comments 2 Standard

I started out our journey with the mindset that teaching meditation on the road (in person & online) would find traction quickly, like our previous business and all would be well. Well, I was wrong – haha. So, instead of teaching at studios, stores or over the phone I have dedicated my energy to putting spiritual content on YouTube. During this process I was searching for another way to earn money and that is when I found Cambly.

Cambly is an online platform for those wanting to learn English. To become a teacher you just have to submit an application and video. You don’t need a college degree which is nice because I dropped out. Basically you get paid to have conversations with people from all around the world. On occasion I will actually do a lesson with a student, but most of the time we are just having a conversation.

Cambly is great because you can set your hours and teach anytime you want. This is a great opportunity to make some extra cash and is probably used best as a part-time job. I’m actually using it as a full-time job because we travel all the time. You get paid weekly and as long as you’re doing well on Cambly you can create a schedule three weeks in advance.

Now there are definitely some cons to this job. If you are working a busy day like Saturday, then the hourly rate is reasonable, but if it is a slow day you can be waiting around a lot and can become frustrating. I do most of my work on the computer like editing videos and writing, so I just use that time to get some work done, so it is not too bad.

With my wife teaching on VIPKID and with myself teaching on Cambly we are able to travel full-time and pay the bills. It is not our “dream jobs” but it is allowing us to live our dream and build our next dream – YouTube! If you are going to use cambly while traveling just beware that it will eat up a lot of data, so have a good plan! I recommend AT&T. We have three hotspots, two are AT&T and one is Verizon. Each AT&T hotspot allows us to have 100 GB of data, so between all three of our hotspots we get 215 GB of data per month. This is enough for web browsing, teaching and uploading youtube videos.

While Cambly can be frustrating sometimes because you get hung up on frequently due to people not knowing how to use the application or are just shy, it is worth it in the end because you can meet some cool people, help them and make some money in the process. You get to be in charge of your schedule and not have a boss, it ain’t that bad at all.

Yesterday my wife and I were sitting in the hot tub at our RV park and I thought how lucky we are. We have so much freedom…

Learning on the fly

We are in love with Tucson! The weather is great here. Of course it isn’t summer right now and the temperature can get pretty high then, but the humidity is so low here. I loved being near the beach when we were staying at a RV park in New Jersey, but I couldn’t stand the humidity there. To be honest, dessert vegetation is not my favorite, but with the combination of the mountains and great weather, it can be overlooked. Something I just found out was that Tucson is one of the most bike friendly cities in the U.S. That is one thing I do miss when we lived in Chicago. I really enjoyed biking throughout the city. I love the freedom that comes along with biking.

Traveling full-time and working on our business has been an on-the-fly learning experience. In the outskirts of Chicago we worked at yoga studios and spiritual shops. There were parts about it we liked and of course parts of it that we didn’t. We eventually shifted to just focusing on workshops and have not found much success in doing that. I think what we are going to do now is put all of our energy into YouTube. While for us YouTube is primarily a place for us to upload adventure videos, but we can also add yoga and meditation videos. I also have a podcast I just started that I can use to discuss topics in spirituality.

We have about 2.5 weeks until we leave Tuscon, but there is still a lot we want to see here. After Arizona we will be heading to southern California. I am excited to continue to have warm weather despite us heading into winter. I have been getting the urge to practice vocals more and more and to my surprise our next RV Park has a room that I can use to practice. This is awesome, because we will most likely be there for about three months.

So we are just going to continue exploring, putting all of our energy into YouTube and I am going to be practicing singing as much as I can. I have always wanted to learn to sing and I can’t put it off any longer. I really want to get better so I can do some covers on YouTube and then eventually create original content. Like anything, I just got to take it day by day. 🙂

Won’t you smile with me?

Leave a comment Standard

the discomfort, the emotions – all that I feel
You slip away and I become stronger
Why does it have to be this way?
The differences between
I love who I am
I’d hope that everyone could feel
Feel the magic inside
Today it is all very real
The sadness, the happiness
The growing pains that push me to my dreams
I remember myself as a child, when I used to smile
Dancing in the living room, crazy and wild
The music I heard, the music I felt
Don’t you know it is why I chose you
But my eyes were wide for the world
And just because I’m gone
Doesn’t mean I don’t love you
I am just living my dream
And I’m starting to smile
Won’t you smile with me?
All my failures, all my risk-taking
It is just the desire to breathe the air of my purpose
I’d hope you’d understand, maybe you never will
What happens to my heart
When the tires spin down the highway
When the sun is crashing behind the mountains
With this fade to black I can see
All my childhood memories
My bike and the autumn leaves
Thank you for the good
Thank you for the bad
And today I stand as a man
Starting to smile again
Won’t you smile with me?

Traveling & Making Money Online

Leave a comment Standard

Most people tend to full-time RV when they are retired. Not us. What really helped propel us into this new life style is our passion for adventure and of course selling our dog walking business. No we are not rich, not even close. Hell, we don’t even have a savings. Yes, we have a new business, but we only make a little money from that. Some months for Souls Gone Wild are really good and others are not. That is just the truth at the moment. What allows us to keep on moving are our other jobs.

My wife and I both teach English online. Heather teaches Chinese children through the platform called VIPKID. I teach on Cambly which allows me to meet people from all around the world. To boil it down, I basically get paid to talk and listen. It is simple and I love it. I log online and wait for incoming calls. Most people want to just talk and some want to go over specific English lessons. When I am not taking a call, I try to relax, edit our youtube videos or work on a blog. What is great about our jobs is that we are both self employed. We can create our own work schedule which works really well when we have travel or adventure days. While these jobs provide a lot of freedom and we enjoy them, they are still jobs. They keep us on the road, but eventually we would love for our youtube channel and blog to take off.

I was really hoping for a smooth transition from our dog walking business to teaching yoga & meditation. It has not been that easy. We have had some awesome months and some difficult months. But, we are still here… in the middle of a desert – haha! We love traveling and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else than where we are now. I love traveling full-time. I love the fact that this winter we are not going to have to just deal with the cold. As a matter of fact, we will be in southern California where I greatly look forward to riding four-wheelers out in the sand dunes. Fuck yeah!

The goal is to keep traveling and teaching English, yoga and meditation. We don’t really have a “plan” and that is what is such a relief. We are really learning as we go. With that, I have to ask – what are you current goals? What are you currently learning in life?

The only thing between you and your dreams is ENERGY.

Leave a comment Standard

Yesterday I turned 34. Being in my thirties is very interesting because it is a time in which our society believes that you should have your life together. If you don’t have your life together, you are a failure. If you have not achieved your dream you might as well give up and get a “real job.” If you are doing what you want by this age, then good for you. That is the overall energy I felt once I hit my early thirties.

Well, I have created a small business with my wife and sold the client list. We are now traveling full-time in a RV. These are two dreams that have come to fruition in my early thirties. I feel good about this, but I am failing still as an artist. This is hard for me, because becoming a successful artist is my ultimate goal.

Performing in front of thousands of people, starting my own clothing line, writing a best selling novel, making movies – the list goes on. It all sounds crazy and perhaps impossible, but these are my dreams as an artist and entrepreneur. Big dreams take time and I am willing to be patient.

My life is so different now. My wife and I travel around the United States, typically staying in one place for a month at a time. We both teach English online which is what allows us to keep traveling. We all also do workshops at yoga studios and I do readings over the phone. It is taking longer than I anticipated in regards to growing our new business. Luckily we can both teach English online. I love it because I get to meet people from all over the world, help them with their English and learn new things about their culture.

I’ve always known that I was a late bloomer. It is why I am not afraid of getting older. I know I will achieve all my dreams. The key for me is letting go of the societal expectations that create that feeling of failure. Aside from that the big component is staying persistent; practicing music, writing, making films, etc.

Anytime I go to pursue a bigger goal I am always met with doubt, but I can always rely on my growing confidence and self belief. Every wall I break through, I use that strength I gained to battle through the next wall. The only thing between myself and my dreams is energy. I know how to move energy. I have and will continue to move it out of my way. Dreams are possible. We have seen many people live their dreams. If you believe dreams are impossible, that is where you are stuck. That will greatly limit you. Dreams are beautiful because it is a time in which you can shine. Dreams allow the spirit to be engaged.

Where are you in your life? What is your next step to reeling in your dream? #makeithappen

Southwest Vibes

Yesterday we saw Albuquerque for the first time and I have to say I really enjoyed it. The energy out here is very different. It reminds me a little of California but definitely not the same. I love how open it is out here, yet there are still mountains. We got to hang out with friends, go to dinner and see some of the city. The part that we saw had a very artsy 50’s feel to it. You could almost imagine all the classic muscle cars cruising down the strip.

Life is interesting, especially now. Running a dog walking business can be certainly unpredictable, however, for the most part we had a routine and usually knew what to expect. The way we live now, you just never know. Sometimes it can be terrifying, but it can also be incredible wonderful. I feel more alive and this is exactly what I was wanting.

I love traveling because we get to not only meet new people, but also see friends whom we haven’t seen in a long time. I love being able to explore new places. We definitely want to see more of Albuquerque, check out the white sands, and go hiking. I am really enjoying the lack of humidity out here. I’ve been looking forward to this ever since we hit the road. The mountains definitely make us happy. We haven’t been around the mountains since we have lived in Colorado. Despite how desolate the town we are currently at is, I am excited to explore the surrounding areas. So far I am digging the southwest vibes 🙂
