Moving Day

Leave a comment Standard

Today is moving day. I’m always conflicted about moving because a part of me is excited and another part of me gets stressed out – haha. Actually today we are not moving very far. We will still be residing just outside of Chicago. We have already seen our new campground and t is really nice, but the only thing I am not looking froward to is how close all the RVs are to one another. At our current camp site we have a lot of space – it’s nice! One really cool thing though is that at the new RV park we will be just a few feet from a small lake. I love being near water, so that makes me happy. Being at our new campground will make things easier for us because we can walk to the yoga studio we teach at. We are also closer to grocery stores and gas stations.

We have two months left in Illinois. After that we will continue heading west. We know Missouri is our next stop, but after that we don’t know. Most likely we will end up in the southwest to avoid the cold weather during fall / winter. Although I have seen parts of the Grand Canyon, exploring the southwest will be pretty much a new experience for me.

Speaking of new experiences, yesterday we went to a car show yesterday which was fun. Got to meet a lot of cool people. The did a cruise around the town so I was able to get some good footage of it. Today is the second day of the show, but because we have to pack up and move, I’m not sure how much of the show we will even be able to see. I posted just a few pictures on our facebook page and will be posting the video soon from yesterday so go ahead and check out YouTube channel in the next few days.

Enjoying the Unknown

Do I miss having a dishwasher? Yes. Do I miss having a large comfortable couch? Yes. Do I miss having hot water available immediately? Absolutely. Do I miss having faster and more reliable internet? Yup! Do I wish I had more space sometimes? Most definitely! Do I miss spending almost $1400 in rent every month? Not really…

Despite there being certain things that I miss about having an apartment, I wouldn’t trade it in for what we currently have. We have freedom. Now if we were making an incredible amount of money, maybe I would want to have an apartment, an art studio and travel to and from there. Right now we are not making a ton of money, so that really isn’t a realistic option. Once we ended our dog walking business, we have had to start over. New business. New life.

The problem is I get bored easily. I don’t like staying in one area for too long. I get antsy. Traveling in a RV is a great solution for this. Maybe one day we eventually have a house and travel from that or maybe we just always live out of a RV. Maybe we end up just finding a really cool place that we park our RV at for longer periods of time and then always travel from that area. If I could find a place that is pretty much always warm and has a music studio – then hell yeah. That could work.

The problem with a home is a mortgage. I’m not interested. The problem with an apartment is they make you sign 12-13 month leases. Not really into that either. That is why traveling in a RV full-time works so well right now. Will it work forever? There is a strong possibility that it may. I feel like we could have millions and we would still end up just getting a nice toy hauler RV and having a small music studio in it. That would be freaking amazing! But, as we all know, life changes. We don’t know what will happen in the future, but that is exactly what we are enjoying now – the unknown.

First Week as Full-Time RVers

Leave a comment Standard

It has been a full week living in our fifth wheel RV. So far I am enjoying this lifestyle; having more time, going on adventures, meditating more, etc.

Now that we are spending less time watching TV and YouTube, my wife and I spend more time having deeper conversations. I like that we have less expenses and everything is much more simple. When we were running our dog walking business, we had a lot of bills and a lot of things to keep track of. With our new brand, Souls Gone Wild, we won’t have any employees and most of our activity will be online based. By being location independent our ability to grow our audience and clientele is limitless.

I have a feeling that travel days with be stressful. It will be challenging for not only us but our pets. Of course we will be excited to move to a new location, but breaking down our camp site, driving and then setting up at our new location will be intense. As we gain more experience we will get better at the process.

Using the bathroom in our RV is interesting. There is very little space to move, so it can feel a little bit cramped. I’d rather have our spacious office than a bigger bathroom setup though. I am still adjusting to using our slide. We have a couch and table that are apart of our slide-out. I still have this irrational fear that when I sit down the slide is going to break and crash – haha.

We are currently at a camp site where it is incredibly tight to back up our 34’ rig. It also happens to be on a slope. Not only that, we are dealing with sand. This may be wishful thinking, but I hope we encounter more spacious lots that are more level. Everyone at our campground are super nice and always willing to help out if needed. The only compliant I have is that there are some dogs that just bark, bark and bark some more. It usually doesn’t last too long, but luckily it has not interrupted our sleep or work yet.

We have a lot to learn which is a good thing. I’m glad we are growing and having new experiences. I really look forward to seeing more of the country and growing our brand. Stepping out of our comfort zone may be stressful at times and scary, but it is totally worth it. What does it mean for you to step out of your comfort zone?

the Adventure begins

Leave a comment Standard

I had a breakthrough today. I could feel my heart opening and feeling was returning to me like a numb hand getting blood flowing back to it. My heart opened and a wave of emotion poured out. I miss my family, I miss my clients and I miss the dogs we walked. I am really proud of what Heather and I created, but I do look forward to building a new brand and having new adventures. I also look forward to strengthening my relationships; with my wife, with my family, our dog lucy, our cat thor, etc.

Yesterday was incredibly stressful; loading the camper, more downsizing and making sure we were safe to tow. The drive wasn’t too bad, but trying to get our 5th wheel in our parking space at the campground was very frustrating. Without knowing it our break away cable disconnected and our RV breaks locked up. We had no idea why we were stuck. It’s kind of funny now, but it certainly wasn’t yesterday. Because of this we ended up getting help from a seasoned driver. We were really grateful for his help.

After that it was time to get our RV level, which we did not end up doing. This part may have been just as irritating as the parking situation. Due to running out of patience and daylight we decided to call it quits and dealt with the awkward imbalance in the RV. Yesterday was not only stressful for us, but also our pets. They were not too happy. But… we all survived.

Today was much better. Our camper is much more level (not perfect), our cat and dog have finally settled and the internet worked. So at this point we know Heather can teach English online. I still have to work on a YouTube video and see how it is uploading. Hopefully that works out. Today I did a reading and I have to say I am liking our office. Even if it is small and absent of our comfortable office chairs – it works.

What I have learned so far is that I don’t know shit. Haha. I have a lot to learn, but that is okay. I am in a position where I can learn and that excites me. I think after our experience yesterday we will accumulate more blocks for the leveling and stabilization process and we may try to find pull-through sites at campgrounds due to our camper being pretty long.

Much to learn, much more adventures to be had and more blogs on the way. Thanks for reading, have a kick ass night!

Andrew
